Dr Aman Ali Now Performing Incisionless Surgery To Treat GERD
A new, incisionless procedure to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is now a procedure being offered by Dr Ali. More than 20 million Americans suffer from daily heartburn or other symptoms of reflux such as regurgitation, chronic cough, hoarseness and dental erosions. Until recently the treatment for GERD was a lifetime of daily medications or an invasive surgery. This new procedure offers patients a different option to treat their symptoms.
The Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) procedure is performed without incisions and based on the established principles of surgical repair of the anti-reflux barrier. TIF is performed through the mouth with an endoscope and rebuilds the valve between the stomach and esophagus restoring the natural, physiological anatomy to prevent GERD. The procedure provides patients with reduced pain, reduced recovery and no visible scar.
Many reflux patients are unable to drink alcohol, carbonated beverages, caffeine or eat rich foods or fruit without triggering reflux. They also sleep sitting up to reduce nighttime reflux. After the TIF procedure, clinical trials show that most patients can eat and drink foods they avoided for many years. Reflux no longer impacts their life like it previously did.
GERD is a common disease that impacts one in five adults and can be complex to diagnose. This new procedure will allow us to continue to provide the high-quality care Dr Ali is known for and offer an incisionless option for GERD patients with the goal of improving their quality of life.”
